Life & Death

Following on from the work on decay (on the Video page) - and a theme of death which seems to be an ongoing theme at the moment - I have been playing with a new camera and macro lens.

Venice Biennale ceiling, September 1999

This is an ongoing artwork, showing windows and ceilings of art galleries ... they are often so much more interesting than the exhibitions! (see ongoing Windows in my creative_blog.htm)

Tower

There are still a number of these old Victorian towers left, even in London. This one, however, which stands just behind Tower Docklands light rail station, probably has not survived; when I photographed it, the roof had gone and it was threatened with demolition by Railtrack.

Old Derbyshire tanks

The beauty of the colours and textures of these old industrial constructions only comes into its own now, as they rust and take on more of the natural character of the earth around them. This becomes more poignant as it generates thoughts of mortality, of hopes and grandeur fading, like youth, or Empire.
